Colon capsule endoscopy

To investigate problems in the large bowel (large intestines; colon) a pill-sized camera can be swallowed and pass through the GI tract taking photos as it goes. This painless, non-invasive investigation is an alternative to traditional colonoscopy.

Small bowel capsule endoscopy

Established for over 18 years as the first-line investigation of the small bowel (small intestines), Dr Maiden has been at the forefront of this technology since it’s introduction to the UK in 2003. He has used it in research, clinical practice and published widely in its use.

Your gut health - Tunbridge Wells and West Kent

21st century gastrointestinal (GI), medical care isn’t just about investigation and management, it’s about your gut health. Nutrition, gut microbiome, dietetics, mental well-being and a holistic approach to the brain-gut axis is the bespoke way we approach your care. It isn’t called a ‘gut feeling’ for nothing. Dr Maiden has studied the gut for over 20 years as a specialist in gastroenterology and as the clinical lead for nutrition in his National Health Service (NHS) tenure forged strong relationships with surgeons, dieticians, speech and language therapists and pharmacists in developing pathways in the management of intestinal failure and feeding disorders. His background in nutrition now influences many of the GI disorders he sees. Abdominal discomfort, nausea, bloating and altered bowel habit, amongst others, are all investigated thoroughly with an extensive repertoire of medical tests available with Dr Maiden. Equipped with this, a bespoke management plan can then be devised and implemented, targeting your symptoms and managing them confidently, always in partnership with Dr Maiden.

Covid-19

During the Covid-19 pandemic we do everything we can to ensure your safety. Consultations are face to face but we also offer virtual or telephone appointments where needed or requested. If you do attend the hospital green (‘covid-free’) pathways will be followed. You may be asked to undergo a lateral flow swab to ensure you do not have asymptomatic carriage for your safety, that of the staff and of other patients.
