Consultation

Dr Maiden would be happy to consult on any aspect of gastrointestinal or liver disease. This includes problems with:
  •  indigestion or reflux ('heartburn')
  •  nausea and vomiting
  • trouble with swallowing
  • abdominal pain
  • unintentional weight loss
  • change in bowel habits (diarrhoea or constipation)
  • abdominal bloating
  • bleeding from the back passage
  • feeding problems and nutritional support (artificial feeding tubes, 'PEGs', intestinal failure)
  • Food allergy and intolerance (especially coeliac disease (also called gluten intolerance), lactose intolerance)
  • irritable bowel syndrome
  • inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis)
  • liver disease including hepatitis and alcoholic liver disease

Dr Maiden's major sub-specialist interests include small bowel diagnostics and therapy and he is one of the national experts in capsule endoscopy (also called 'pillcam'). He is one of the very few specialists who has been permitted to screen the population for bowel cancer, having been accredited on the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. If you have gastrointestinal symptoms Dr Maiden would be very pleased to offer you an immediate out-patient appointment.

You would normally have consulted your GP first, who can then pass on a referral on your behalf.
